International Engineering Failure Analysis Conference VI (Lisbon) – ESR Technology Ltd presents Forth Rd Bridge Research
Dr Paul Roffey of the Forensic Engineering & Materials Department recently attended the sixth International Engineering Failure Analysis Conference (ICEFA VI) in Lisbon.
Research was presented describing the metallurgical investigation performed by the team on the Forth Rd suspension bridge main cables as part of the inspection in 2012. The annual conference is attended by a large number of delegates made up of academics and engineers from around the globe.
‘Engineering failure analysis is a key tool for the improvement of the modern innovation cycle now demands that component design involves a whole-of-life approach, incorporating an awareness of manufacture, safety, reliability, environmental sensitivity and disposal. This has focused attention on the pivotal role of failure analysis as an essential tool to improve equipment availability, help prevent accidents and disasters and to inform the processes of design, manufacture, operation and maintenance of key plant and equipment.’
The conference topics include the rail industry, power and steam production, process engineering and petrochemical, structural engineering, marine environments and aerospace.
