NCT Celebrates 50 years of heritage and a futuristic new collaboration
ESR Technology’s National Centre of Tribology (NCT) celebrated its 50th Anniversary last month. At the event, an exciting new collaboration with The Henry Royce Institute was announced.
Tribology is the science and technology of friction, wear and lubrication, developed in the 1960’s and NCT was one of the first specialist centres established in the UK. For the last fifty years, NCT has supported many different industries including rail, oil and gas, nuclear and utilities with a combination of industrial tribology and materials engineering. ESR Technology also has expertise in space tribology and runs the European Space Tribology Laboratory (ESTL).
The 50th anniversary event launched a new chapter in NCT’s long and prestigious history by announcing that ESR Technology and the Henry Royce Institute are now working in collaboration for the advancement of tribology and advanced materials engineering.
The Henry Royce Institute is the UK national institute for advanced materials research and innovation. The Institute works collaboratively with industry and academia to accelerate the innovation of materials systems, in order to create economic and societal benefit. With its hub at The University of Manchester, and more than £330 million invested in capability across its nine Partner institutions, the Royce is making a step change to research capability in the UK.
This is the first time that a collaboration with an industry provider has been entered in to by the Henry Royce Institute.
