Rail Sector

ESR Technology’s National Centre of Tribology (NCT) have been providing failure analysis, reliability engineering and design consultancy to the rail industry for over 20 years. Our roots in the rail industry began in 1996 when AEA rail bought the research division of British Rail. Our expertise in continuous welded rail buckling and metal fatigue gained us recognition within the rail industry, which we bolstered by adding engineering expertise in numerous railway incidents including Southall East in 2002 and the Tebay incident in 2004.

In the meantime, we have investigated failures of bearings, bolts, gearboxes, engines, cardan shafts, wheels and disc brakes. Our experience in the rail sector is built on our extensive knowledge of engineering tribology, making us experts in many engineering disciplines including bearings, bolting, lubrication and design.
