Andrew Gibson

Head of Space Mechanisms, ESR Space

Andrew Gibson is an experienced lead in the space industry, specialising in systems engineering, opto-mechanical systems, cryogenic technologies, and long-life mechanisms for space science, communications, astronomy, and earth observation.

He is skilled in managing highly specialised teams, driving growth, and aligning with organisational objectives. His expertise includes spacecraft tribology, cryocoolers, and mechanical/thermal technologies for space. Andrew has extensive experience collaborating with the European Space Agency, Canadian Space Agency, CNES, and NASA on major programs like the ISS, JWST, Sentinel-3, Planck, INTEGRAL, and MOPITT.

His core specialties encompass tribology, cryocoolers, long-life bearings and gears, thermal and mechanical design, government liaison, contract management, and operational planning.
