The challenge: Our client had identified a recurring issue with con rod bolt failures in an industrial engine, resulting in several catastrophic failures. We were tasked with identifying the root cause, and recommending process changes to alleviate the issue.

Until now, no guidance has been available for those seeking to employ a new oil or grease product in a space mechanism intended for flight qualification. However, a guideline document (ESA-ESTL-TM-0375 01- “Guidelines for Qualification of New Fluid Lubricants”) recently released by ESTL and available in ESTL’s Members’ Area aims to provide clarity concerning the lubricant verification and validation prerequisites ultimately to be required by the European Space Agency (ESA) in this situation.
HOIS hosted a highly successful Symposium on 18 January 2024 in Houston Texas to highlight the launch of two new industry guidance documents developed by the HOIS joint industry project on remote internal inspection and guidance for ultrasonic non-intrusive inspection and elevated temperatures (up to 250°C/480°F).
