Tribology – commonly described as the study of friction, wear and lubrication – is an interdisciplinary subject embracing aspects of physics, chemistry, fluid mechanics, material science, and metallurgy. For most mechanical systems, the requirements of “good tribology” and effective lubrication are to minimise adhesion, friction, and wear of the contacting surfaces and thereby to maximise life.
Critical infrastructure, like hospitals, data centres, and power plants, rely heavily on electrical systems to function. Disruptions to these electrical systems can have cascading effects, leading to financial damages, and societal disruption. In recent news, Manchester Airport erupted into chaos as it faced a major power cut, that caused huge disruptions with airlines and luggage operations.
Some of our NCT team took to the tracks as they went go-karting on an after-work social event. The venue presented the team with their best lap times, but as data-driven scientists and engineers, the team asked for the full results
