At ESR Technology, we believe it is important to share and celebrate the achievements of our expert team of staff. Recently, one of our Research Engineers from our space team, Matt Simpson, graduated from Loughborough University with a PhD.
Matt’s PhD was entitled “Dynamics and Tribology of High-Performance Constant Velocity Joints” and explored the impact factors upon a rolling contact fatigue failure mode in a constant velocity joint for a Formula One team. Within the PhD, Matt built a large multibody dynamic model of the joint, developed a custom tribological friction model based on experimental characterisation, and modelled the subsurface stresses within the raceway contacts of the joint.
Some journal papers published during the PhD can be found using the following links: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.mechmachtheory.2023.105407 and https://doi.org/10.1016/j.triboint.2024.109699 .
Matt had a fantastic day at his Loughborough University graduation ceremony. As part of the Mechanical, Electrical, and Manufacturing Engineering school, he joined a crowd of over 300 graduates and 30 PhDs. It was great to hear all about Matt celebrating with family and reconnecting with friends who also finished their PhDs.
ESR Technology would like to formally congratulate Matt his PhD from Loughborough University. ESR Technology is proud of Matt on such a brilliant achievement and on hitting a valuable milestone that will be sure to have a great impact on his career.
