At ESR Technology, our NCT team specialises in bespoke rig design tailored to meet the unique requirements of our clients.
For this project, we designed and built a custom test rig to evaluate the indentation resistance of floor panels at full scale. This approach was essential for capturing accurate boundary conditions (stay tuned for our upcoming blog post).
To keep the project within budget, we maximised the use of off-the-shelf aluminium extrusions, minimising both design and fabrication time. This also allows for easy future modifications, accommodating a wide range of test setups.
While using these extrusions provides cost-effective flexibility, it does limit the load capacity of the rig. To address this, we conducted detailed analyses, combining Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with hand calculations, to understand the rig’s capacity and identify potential design adjustments for future upgrades if higher load thresholds are needed.
