ESR Technology recently welcomed college student, Max, who is currently studying Maths, Physics, and Computer Science, for a week-long work experience programme. Designed to provide a glimpse into the world of engineering, we provided a fun-packed timetable that offered Max a diverse and engaging experience. ESR Technology comprises of four distinct teams, each specialising in a different engineering discipline. This structure allowed Max to explore a variety of engineering fields throughout his week.
Work experience like this offers numerous benefits to students. We at ESR Technology believe it’s crucial to provide students with the opportunity to explore career paths in a practical setting. While college focuses on theoretical knowledge, work experience allows students to apply their learnings to real-world situations. Beyond gaining practical skills relevant to their chosen field, students also develop valuable transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, and time management – all highly sought-after qualities by employers.
Max interacted with industry experts from ESR Technology teams. He gained hands-on experience in areas like calibration testing, grease and oil analysis, and data analysis with the National Centre of Tribology (NCT) team. He even ventured into the clean room laboratory to explore space tribology with ESTL research engineers.
In today’s competitive job market, relevant work experience can significantly enhance a student’s CV. Employers and universities often prioritise students who have gone out and gained practical experience, giving them a clear advantage.
