HOIS Joint Industry Project
HOIS Highlights 2023-2024
Who we are and what we do
HOIS is a joint industry project which is now 40 years old, having been established in 1982, managed by ESR Technology Ltd. There are currently 40 project partners from the energy sector including asset owners/operators (Category 1 members), and non-destructive testing service companies, NDT equipment vendors and technology developers, and the Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC) (Category 2 members). The current Chair of HOIS is held by Shell and the Deputy Chair by TotalEnergies. AkerBP, QSA GLOBAL and INPEX are the latest organisations to join HOIS in 2024.
The HOIS vision is to improve the effectiveness of in-service inspection for the energy industry. HOIS establishes the capabilities and limitations of inspection techniques by means of rigorously controlled blind trials which inform the development of industry good practice guidance documents.
The HOIS community works collaboratively – sharing knowledge and experience which shapes our technical projects developing industry good practice. This enables operators to make well-informed decisions when procuring services and allows service providers to better understand operator priorities.
We also collaborate with other industry bodies such as BINDT, the Energy Institute and SPRINT Robotics. The Net Zero Technology Centre have co-funded several HOIS projects which has enabled scope expansion and acceleration of project delivery.
The HOIS technical programme is entirely determined by the membership to ensure that all projects remain aligned with industry priorities.
